Early in 2007, the Minister of Finance decided to assign the tasks formerly handled by the National Debt Management Agency (NDMA) to the Central Bank of Iceland. The changes took effect on 1 October 2007, at which time the NDMA discontinued operations.
Agreement on Treasury debt management
On 18 October 2010 an agreement was signed between The Ministry of Finance and Central Bank of Iceland on Treasury debt management. The purpose of this Agreement is to promote more economical, efficient and effective debt administration for the Treasury, based on the Ministry of Finance’s debt strategy. This entails minimising the Treasury’s domestic and foreign interest and financial expense by seeking economical financing proposals for the Treasury, both domestically and abroad.
